9/11: a “Fable;” “Death to America:” not serious; FedEx: Can’t Buy Nukes [video]

On September 11, 2015, Fars News, Iran’s state-run news service, ran an editorial, entitled, “Fables of 9/11: Persistent, Persuasive, and Destructive.” It instructs Americans to stop commemorating 9/11, stating, “The tragedy of 9/11 should no longer be allowed to haunt the world’s collective memory and define its sense of purpose and orientation.”

It continues:

Under the pretext of wiping out the terrorists and their movements, the United States and its allies continue to spread sectarian poison and bring pain and suffering to many others. For fourteen years, the world has only seen wars, interventions, assassinations, torture, kidnappings, black sites, the growth of the American-European spying program, and the spread of terrorism.”

The editorial closes by asserting: “The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth – persistent, persuasive, and destructive.”

This sentiment follows a speech Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei gave in July. Remarking on American “negotiations” with Iran about its nuclear program, Khamenei called Americans “arrogant,” vowing that Iran would oppose America regardless of any “negotiation” outcome. The crowd responded throughout his speech by chanting “death to America,” “death to England,” and “death to Israel.”

Khamenei declared, “Unfortunately America does not give up. The president himself, the secretary of state, and Miss Sherman are constantly threatening us that military option is on the table. Iran laughs at this.” The crowd chanted with raised arms:

Death to America! Death to England! Death to the hypocrites! Death to Israel!”

In response to Iran’s open threats to America, The Hill reported Secretary of State John Kerry saying that Iran’s, “chants of ‘death to America’ and so forth are not helpful, and they’re pretty stupid.”

He also quipped that Iran and other countries wouldn’t buy or build nuclear weapons, stating: “Well first of all, you can’t just go out and buy a nuclear weapon. You don’t ship them FedEx. That’s just not how it works.”

Notably, Barack Obama compared Iranians chanting “Death to America” to those in the Republican caucus who oppose the Iran “deal.” He remarked:

Just because Iranian hard-liners chant ‘death to America’ does not mean that that’s what all Iranians believe. In fact, it’s those hard-liners who are most comfortable with the status quo. It’s those hard-liners chanting “death to America” who have been most opposed to the deal. They’re making common cause with the Republican caucus.”

Contrary to Obama’s claim, both Republicans and Democrats oppose the Iran deal. As do the majority of Americans– by a 2:1 margin. A recent Quinnipiac poll found that nearly six in 10 Americans, or 57 percent, oppose the nuclear deal compared to 28 percent who support it. CNN’s poll results are roughly the same; 56 percent of Americans polled want Congress to reject the deal.

Likewise, Quinnipiac found that 62 percent of Americans polled were “not so confident” or “not confident at all” in the effectiveness of international preliminary agreement with Iran, which in theory would restrict Iran’s nuclear program.

Despite Iranian death threats to America, opposition against the deal by a majority of Americans, congressional bipartisan opposition, and Article III of the U.S. Constitution, which clearly defines treasonous acts, Obama continues to press ahead with the Iran deal.
